The Curse of the Video Poker Bonuses

I played only Video Poker bonuses this week as far as bonus swindling goes. My hope was to bring my bankroll from around 2750 to 3500, or at least $3000, before I went on to hit the semi stickies. But I came up a little short.

All the video poker bonuses I played were of similar casino's that use microgaming software. The bonuses were mostly 100% on first deposit up to $50-$100 with some other more creative bonuses thrown in there. The WR were pretty much all 20 x bonus and deposit, of which 20% could be cleared at blackjack and the other 80% had to be cleared at some video poker games. The bonusbug forum guides suggested that Aces and Faces was the best allowable game for the clearing the bonuses. The good thing was that the microgaming software has autoplay so I didn't have to play any of the blackjack or vid poker myself, just set the number of hands to play and press start. The guide warned me to expect swings, and it was right.

I'm not sure of the exact casino edge for Aces and Faces on these bonuses because it wasn't listed in the guides or at wizard of odds.com. The thing with video poker is that most of the money is tied up in the bigger hands like straight and royal flushes. In the long run, you will hit enough of these hands, but in the short run you can expect some pretty big swings. The odds of hitting the royal, which would have payed out at $4000 if i'd hit it, were about 40 000 to 1.

I made a little bit of money on some of the bonuses, but lost on most and ultimately came out down about $300 for all video poker bonuses this week and last. I was betting 25c a spin and 5 coins a spin, so $1.25 per spin. I did this because there was a bonus amount for hitting the royal if you were playing maximum coins. Upon reflection, I probably should have played only one coin at 25c to get less fluctuations and hence make a better profit.

There are some more vid poker bonuses to hit up, but i'm gonna wait will i'm better bankrolled to it them. I'll detail all the bonus win/losses in the weekly report.
